solution: |
|
The ministry completed a previous renovation of the first
floor, and in the summer of 2008 began the process to design and renovate the
second floor into an educational and cultural center on the second floor of its
current home, a former metal manufacturing facility in this culturally diverse
neighborhood. The project created several multi-purpose classrooms for the
ministry’s ever-expanding programs. The project also included a media/library
room, art room and music studio. The roof is to be capitalized as an outdoor
play area for the growing children’s programs.
The building is designed to meet LEED-gold standards, which will include
roof-mounted wind turbines, geothermal heating and cooling and zero-emission
finishes throughout. Day-lighting principles were employed helping the ministry
to minimize its electrical consumption. |
